Why is Gates, a direct and indirect investor in brands like Beyond Meats and Impossible Foods, pushing for synthetic meat—particularly synthetic beef—as a climate solution?

With an estimated 10 billion mouths to feed by 2050. Changes to global consumption habits are essential. And the real value of insects may not be as individual delicacies. Something had to be done to remove climate polluting animals such as Cows with far more efficient users of energy and far less polluting. Farting Cows were a big threat to the environment in case you missed that one. They even signed at the recent COP26 a Global Methane Pledge to show us how bad Cows were.
A new joint agreement by the European Union and the United States to cut global methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 could mark a crucial step in tackling climate change and getting the world closer to the goals of the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise to below 2°C.
Methane from human activity falls into three main sectors: agriculture (40 per cent), fossil fuels (35 per cent) and waste (20 per cent). Livestock farming is a key cause of methane in the agriculture sector.
In the fossil fuel sector, oil and gas extraction, processing and distribution accounts for 23 per cent, and coal mining accounts for 12 per cent of emissions. With pre-existing technology, a 75 per cent reduction in methane from the oil and gas sector is possible, 50 per cent of this could be done at no net cost.
“Cutting methane emissions is the best way to slow climate change over the next 25 years,” said Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP.

There are many advantages to eating edible insects. They convert feed to protein much more efficiently than cows or pigs or chickens. They require far less water. They don't need to waste all that water on keeping their body pool. They use less land, they're faster to grow, and they're packed with nutrition…
Our facility today that we're building that's going to come online next year, is situated on 12 acres of property. Now, according to the USDA 12 Acres is just about enough land to raise approximately three or four cows three or four cows means you're producing maybe maybe you know a few 1000 kilograms a year of meat from that 12 acre parcel of land. We are going to produce 12 million kilograms a year of crickets from 12 acres.
