Was the Internet Kill Switch just Live Tested in Canada with the Rogers Network Outage?
The entire Rogers Network went dark in Canada, find out what really is going on here
Nothing like a dry corporate lawyer drafting a media statement with the guys in IT. If that is indeed the scenario, then here is the prepared totally useless and meaningless official media statement.
It was a router in HQ that malfunctioned after an update and the entire network went dark? Seriously, that was to be one of the most lame excuses ever released to the public. I guess after the Covid-19 Scamdemic the public will believe anything told to them, as long as they get their little refund they will be placated.
In a nation of 33M this network outage in Canada affected more than 12M customers. The 911 service was not working in many areas for Rogers customers, Debit card processing services were down, Internet was down, so was their Mobile service, and worst of all even their wired landlines were going down across the entire nation.
The outage began early Friday morning, with the online service tracker istheservicedown.ca reporting issues from Roger as early as 4:40 a.m. EDT, with initial reports coming from Ontario.
Rogers confirmed shortly before 9 a.m. EDT on Twitter that it was aware of issues affecting the network.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. EDT, Rogers said the outage had spread across its wireline and wireless networks.
By Friday evening, Rogers said it had begun to see its wireless services return online.
They just admitted that both services were affected; wired and wireless. One maintenance update sent by the NSO Group or was it Russia or was it China, but whoever it was, it was enough to knock out land lines as well as mobile services?
If that is not Live Testing an Internet Kill Switch then please explain what does an Internet Kill Switch would look like?
And then when you say “spread” that sounds very much like a virus spreading in your network rather than a software “update”. You do not call it software “spread” that is an IT term used in a different context as in Virus and Malware.
So again another committee has been struck up in true Canadian style and months later we will get to the bottom of this mess, by burying it under the carpet.
But not before the lawsuits have started in true American style. Show me the Money, that is show me $200 CDN.
Montreal-based law firm LPC Avocat announced Monday that it has requested authorization to bring a class-action lawsuit against the telecom company.
The lawsuit is seeking $200 for affected customers on the basis that Rogers allegedly broke Quebec's consumer protection law by failing to provide "an essential service" on July 8 and 9.
The suit also seeks an additional $200 for the Rogers' assertation that it has the "most reliable network in Canada," alleging that this constitutes a "false representation."
For a historical perspective on the Internet Kill Switch we have to go back 11 years into ancient history and the protests in Egypt and how the government shut down the Internet to prevent people organizing or using social media to spread their message.
Governments can shut down the Internet and now we know software updates can also shut down the Internet and next we will be told that the “Kill Switch” is a good thing and needed to stop hackers for attacking our network.
When the network is down that means your Banks will also not be working. Time to explore some low tech and no tech alternatives to cell phones and keep cash handy.
